Dolreich “DJ” Tongcopanon of Robson-Gensan maintains the top spot in the NDFP National Player Ranking coming from 62 NDFP Ranking Tournaments from April 2015 up to March 2017. This is the 4th straight quarter that the youngest National Master has been leading the National Ranking. Noel Malicdem is gaining ground on the lead of DJ with his 2 Open Singles win in the first quarter. Christian Perez kept 3rd place with a win in the 100K Hinugyaw Open Singles.
Prussian Arceño bounced up to 4th place after his 2nd place finish at the 150K Araw ng Dabao, overtaking Boy Ulang who only managed a T8 finish in the Emong’s Cup. The National Player Ranking is a Rolling 2-Year period showing consistency and reliability of player performance.
Since 2005, there are only 14 National Masters – those who have won 3 national titles (100K and over tournaments). Ricky Mijares who needs another win to join the elite group of national masters, missed his opportunity to Alexis Toylo in the finals of the 150k Panagbenga Open after leading 3-2. Bobot Tobianosa of Agendarts, also looking for his 3rd national title, missed his chance to be a National Master as Noel Malicdem beat him in the finals of the 100K Kalilangan Festival in Gensan.
With 10 National Titles at stake in the 2nd Quarter of 2017, eleven (11) players with two wins are hoping to be the next National Master - Ricky Mijares, Bobot Tobianosa, Boy Ulang, Edward Santos, Boy Chucas, Kenneth Madalang, Elmer Maranan, Willy Omli, Dodoy Nalugon, Rey Sevillo, and Melvin Pelona.
The 2nd Quarter brings countless possibilities to the NDFP National Player Ranking and a lot of opportunities to be a National Master. The NDFP-sanctioned tournaments scheduled almost every week, kicks off with the 100K Bantayong Festival in Daet, CamNorte on April 21.
