A virtual unknown in the national ranking circuit is the latest addition to the roster of the NDFP National Masters.  Congratulations, Michael Viola of Cagayan De Oro City, who earned the National Masters title in 3 short months since winning his first title at the 100K El Dardo Tournament - Zamboanga City in October 2017, then at the 200K Manny Pacquiao B-Day Tournament in December, and finally for his 3rd title at the 100K Hinugyaw Open in Koronadal City, January 8, 2018.

Michael Viola first appeared in the limelight of Philippine Darts when he came in joint 3rd in the Asian Qualifier of BBDO World Championship at the Malaysian Open last September, 2017.  Out of nowhere he was playing in the semi-finals of the Asian Qualifier against the top Asian and Filipino players. The confidence he gained in Malaysia was enough to propel him to the quest for the National Masters title, aided by his triumphant victory in the Fixed Doubles of the cash laden 650K Casino by the Bay last December.

At 39 years old, Michael Viola is not new to darts.  He started playing darts as an enthusiast and social player in 2005 but stopped playing in 2010 to start his own networking business.  In 2016, through the prodding of his close darter friend, July Moralde, he started playing darts again.  Seeing the transformation of “kababayan” Alex Tagarao to a fine and competitive player inspired Michael to sharpen his darting skills and hopefully secure a place in the international dart arena.

Cagayan De Oro is fast regaining its lost stature as a major darting city; and with Alexis Toylo also of CDO City becoming one of the latest National Masters, we will see more darters from Cagayan de Oro City come to the forefront of Philippine darts.
