Tengku Shah, the top Malaysian dart player and the only foreign Philippine Master, arrived in Davao City this morning to compete in the NDFP National ranking tournament – the 150K Araw ng Dabao, slated for March 10-12 at the Felis Resort Complex, Davao City.

Tengku is an NDFP Master having won the Open Singles of the 2M Manny Pacquiao International Darts Classic in 2008.  He hopes to be a Philippine National Master by winning 2 more Open Singles of NDFP National Ranking tournaments and make history as the only foreign National Master.  This is a challenge, he confides as a dart player, for he will be competing among the best dart players in Asia.

Tengku gained heightened confidence last year after making a glorious comeback in Malaysia by winning Stage 5 of Dartslive The World and PDC Asia Qualifier to the World Dart Championship in Taiwan.  In the WDC in London, he won his first round match against Masumi Chino of Japan with a score of 2-1.

Speaking of the best players, the top 3 ranked NDFP players DJ Toncopanon, Noel Malicdem, and Christian Perez will see action in Dabao this weekend.  Perez won the first Open Singles this year in the P100K Hinugyaw Open in Koronadal while Malicdem won the P100K Kalilangan last month.

The presence of Melvin Pelona from Maasin, Southern Leyte will add excitement to the Araw ng Dabao being the Triple Crown Winner of the P325K Mayor Romuladez Cup in Tacloban last year.  Pelona won the Sangyaw Open Singles, the MVP Award, and P10K Award for making a perfect 9-dart out in Tacloban. We cannot discount the surging competitive players in Mindanao, especially from Cagayan de Oro City, Gensan, and Koronadal to make a difference.

Kudos to the revitalized leadership of FDAMDI (Federated Dart Association Metro Davao Inc)  with new President Cres Sugala, Vice-President  Long Longyapon, and the support of Chris Bayron. FDAMDI is taking center stage again!!
