“The Icon of Davao Darts” passed away.  Bonifacio “ Boy” Gludo, succumbed to cardiac arrest and kidney failure last June 13, 2015 after a massive stroke he suffered two days earlier. Body lies in state at St. Peter, Panabo City, Davao del Norte. Interment will be on June 23, 2015 and a necrological service by darters will be held on June 20.

Boy Gludo will be remembered as the hard-working and conscientious organizer of the Federated Dart Association of Metro Davao Inc. (FDAMDI). In 2007, Boy Gludo of Karaan Darters spearheaded the core group representing the dart organizations and dart clubs in Davao City to form the FDAMDI, whose Board of Directors eventually represented these various groups.  Boy Gludo was the first and only President of FDAMDI since 2007. The expansion of the federation subsequently included Davao del Norte in Tagum and Panabo to Davao del Sur in the City of  Digos. FDAMDI became the umbrella dart organization in Region XI.

The formation of FDAMDI accelerated the expansion and growth of dart activities including the acquisition of Bulls Eye, the dart venue of FDAMDI. Up and coming Davao darters were given support to compete nationally and the provincial networking support of FDAMDI extended all over Central and Southern Mindanao. The respect for Boy Gludo is all over Mindanao, not only for his leadership and support but for the personal sacrifices he made both physically and materially in the name of the sport he loved – DARTS. He will forever be remembered as the “Tatay of Darts” who erected the structures of governance to instill hope and fulfill the aspiration of darters.

On a personal note, I knew Boy Gludo since 1997.  He was one of the first provincial darters playing for Robson Sportscraft, when he became a “Rated Player” finishing in the top 4 of the National Singles. Through Boy Gludo, Davao City became a bastion of support to the programs and vision of the National Darts Federation of the Philippines (NDFP). He belonged to the triumvirate of Guia Mamogkat and Rod Masukat of Cotabato City that first propagated the ideals and the values of the NDFP that eventually influenced the whole of Mindanao. To this day, under the leadership of Boy Gludo, FDAMDI is the affiliated local dart organization with the most number of NDFP ranking and sanctioning events. I will forever be indebted to Boy Gludo for his loyalty, support, and lasting friendship.

On Friday, I fly to Davao City to pay my last respect.
