PHILIPPINE DARTERS MAKE MARK IN WDF WORLD CUP AND KOREA OPEN

The Philippines proudly showcased its rising strength in international darts through an inspiring campaign at the World Darts Federation (WDF) World Cup and Korean Open 2025, both held in Gyeonggi-do, Korea. The national contingent delivered breakthrough performances that brought honor to the country and affirmed the growing presence of Filipino darters on the global stage.

Leading the charge was Lovely Mae “Bebang” Orbeta, who carved history by winning the Philippines’ first-ever gold medal at the WDF World Cup, defeating USA’s Paula Murphy in the thrilling women’s singles final. Orbeta also impressed in the semi-finals with a commanding victory over Germany’s Irina Armstrong, firing three 180s en route to a 6–2 win.

The Philippine Women’s Team added to the celebrations by reaching the semi-finals of the Women’s Team event after defeating Canada 9–3 in the Top 16, a feat that highlighted their depth and competitiveness against the world’s elite. Earlier in the week, the Men’s squad also posted commendable runs with Alexis Toylo and Noel Maclidem making it to the semi-finals of the Open Pairs after beating Jarred Cole and Chas Barstow 4-2 in the quarter-finals.

Our Filipino darters continued to shine in the Korea Open. Lourence Ilagan clinched the WDF Gold Ranking Event title after defeating Raymond Smith of Australia, 6-4. This is Ilagan’s 3rd WDF ranking event win since his victory at the Malaysia Open in 2015. Paolo Nebrida made it to Quarter-Finals of the Korea Open. Their participation underscored the Philippines’ commitment to darts after rejoining the World Darts Federation earlier this year.

These achievements would not have been possible without the unwavering support of sponsors and partners who fueled the team’s journey. The National Darts Federation of the Philippines (NDFP) extends its deepest gratitude to Art Longyapon of Kumpadres, Jeff Soncuya of Robson Sportscraft, Bem Noel of Overtime Sports Bar, PAGCOR, the Philippine Sports Commission, and San Miguel Corporation. Their steadfast commitment to Philippine darts continues to drive the sport forward, creating opportunities for Filipino players to shine internationally.

The Philippines’ successful campaign in Korea is more than just a collection of victories—it is a statement of intent. With growing support, a pool of talented players, and the passion of the darting community, the country is poised for even greater success in future international competitions.
